Never was a Shade (2012)

5-channel audio installation. Paranormal research device (i.e. “ghost radio”) interfaces with PureData software patch to present a continually-shifting sound composition based on the Ombra Mai Fu aria from George Frideric Handel's Serse. The vocal recording is deconstructed into narrow bands of frequency and reconfigured in a way that shifts between recognizable and abstract. The project explores ideas of modulation/demodulation and the disembodied voice.
