vessels: undertone (2016 / 2018)

Photographs of glass containers (i.e. large bottles, jugs, etc) recovered from the Atlantic seafloor by Halifax-based citizen historians and divers.

The surfaces of the artifacts have been transformed and marked by long passages of time, the presence/absence of light, as well as additive/subtractive processes occurring in the water column and seafloor due to chemistry. This process echoes the salient features of photography itself. (Presented in diptych format. Individual dimensions: 20x30 inches. Archival inkjet prints on aluminum panels).

Produced through support from the Canada Council for the Arts.
